Depletion, in its many forms..

There are some environments that do not simply tire the body…
They drain the soul.
You walk in feeling grounded, clear, open.
And leave feeling heavy, foggy, anxious, overstimulated, exhausted or emotionally “not yourself.”
Energetic depletion is real.
For highly sensitive people, empaths, trauma survivors, healers, carers, and those with open nervous systems, the body is constantly reading the room.
Not just words.
But tension.
Suppressed emotion.
Conflict.
Expectation.
Chaos.
Need.
Unspoken energy.
Over time, if we do not learn how to protect and regulate ourselves, the nervous system can begin living in a constant state of hypervigilance and depletion.
Protection is not about building walls.
It is about learning how to remain connected to yourself whilst moving through difficult environments.
Some simple but powerful ways to protect your energy:
Ground before entering the space
(Bare feet on the earth, deep abdominal breathing, cold water on wrists, visualising roots beneath you)
Soften hypervigilance in the body
(Relax the jaw, unclench the stomach, drop the shoulders, lengthen the exhale)
Create energetic boundaries
(Visualise a soft iridescent light or golden field around your body. Not armour. A filter.)
Limit over-explaining and over-giving
(Those with trauma often leak energy trying to keep everyone comfortable)
Protect the ears and nervous system
(Lower stimulation where possible. Silence is medicine.)
Place a hand on the heart and solar plexus
(Remind the body: “I am safe inside myself.”)
Cleanse afterwards
(Salt baths, sauna, shaking the body, breathwork, walking in nature, intentional rest)
The body was never designed to carry everyone else’s emotional weight.
Healing is learning discernment.
Learning when to open.
When to pause.
And when to lovingly step back into yourself.
Because your energy is sacred too.
All my love,
Penelope.
